Coastal architecture succeeds when it responds to place rather than competing with it.
Perched above the dunes at Pukehina Beach, this home was designed to embrace its environment, balancing clean architectural expression with the durability required for one of New Zealand's most demanding coastal settings.
Simple forms, carefully considered materiality and a restrained palette allow the building to settle naturally into the landscape. Vertical aluminium cladding introduces rhythm and shadow, while a textured powder coated finish softens reflected light and provides the long-term corrosion resistance the site demands.
A reminder that good material selection isn't just about aesthetics, it's about creating architecture that continues to perform as intended, year after year.
