The Walking Beat String Band is a five-piece string band from the Driftless region of Minnesota. Composed of upright bass, mandolin, guitar, banjo, harmonica, and dobro, with all of the members joining in on vocals, the band fuses the best of old-time country, blues, and bluegrass, with modern songwriting, an open ear, and a punk rock ethic.

Formed from the ashes of the Walking Beat in the waning days of 2025, singer/songwriter Steve McCauley and banjo player John Molseed, enlisted Oliver Books, Mike Nesbit, and Abram Krause to form a musical unit on a mission. In an era of corruption and artificial distractions, the Walking Beat String Band strips off the varnish to create honest, raw, and hard-scrable music. There will be no amps, no autotune, and their strings might give you tetanus, but expect energy, catchy songs, and a rip-roaring good time.
