Hailing from Giverny, the Norman quartet formed in 2016 is made up of Eliot Carrière (vocals, guitar, bass, lyrics), Matthieu Vaugelade (drums), Hector Riggi (guitar, synth).The band recorded their debut album Salvation Prayer in 2018 in Portland, Oregon USA, with Peter G.Holmstrom (The Dandy Warhols) at the helm. In 2019, the band performed live in Seattle for KEXP radio, after its famous host Kevin Cole fell in love with their first album. It is in these studios that the process for the next album began.

Their second album, Thousand Shadows Vol.1, was released at the end of 2021. Then, after defending it on European and American stages in 2022, YOU SAID STRANGE released its second instalment : Thousand Shadows Vol.2, in April 2023. This second opus continued to establish the band's own sound identity, taking them on ever more ambitious tours of Europe and across the Atlantic.

The global project Thousand Shadows, recorded in their home studio, was created between 2020 and 2022 when the four members confined themselves together during the Covid pandemic. It is the fruit of their tours, their personal and collective experiences and their relationship with the world and with others. Through their indie rock, somewhere between psych-pop-rock, shoegaze and proto-grunge, the band absorbs its time to create a music of melancholy, love and the search for fulfillment. The Thousand Shadows project highlights the many shadows that are always withering everywhere. The shadows that stroll across borders, hiding the violence of the struggle for borders. The shadows that time casts on relationships and their persistence, because shadows move. So Plato's cave, the modern version, is one of toxic relationships, antidepressants and the acceptance of the regression of freedoms and/or the vision of a dying world ? YOU SAID STRANGE take these thoughts and dissect them to find the spark that proclaims that yes, life is worth living. Because there's one thing we mustn't forget: the shadows exist because the light exists.

More down-to-earth than their mystical big brother Salvation Prayer, Thousand Shadows (vol.1 and vol.2) embody the maturity they have acquired, through assertive music and personal, humanist lyrics. A vibrant, intense identity emerges from this project, which is also more concrete, with a social and political message at times. It's still the work of passionate musicians, whose dazzling instruments and powerful vocals grab you immediately.

Whether on stage or on the turntable, when we talk about YOU SAID STRANGE, "it's a call to travel and transcend". Their project exudes this on-stage dimension, this spontaneity in embodying their music both on record and in front of their audience. "Our DNA is live. We can't see ourselves defending our music any other way. We constantly need to connect with people, to create a strong bond with them".
