Rakeem is the energetic Breakfast Show presenter at BBC Radio WM waking the region up with laughs & impactful stories. He has interviewed everyone from the likes of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak & Labour Leader Kier Starmer to Sir Lenny Henry & Sharon Osbourne. He is the cover presenter on BBC Radio 1Xtra from Birmingham. Also, in 2020 Rakeem was selected as part of the nationwide search for BBC Radio 1 Christmas presenters. He returned to cover a month of Friday early breakfast, as well as multiple Radio 1's Big Weekends & weekend breakfast shows.
Presenting
Rakeem has presented at some of the nation's biggest events including Table Tennis at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham Festival, TedX, Birmingham Weekender & Christmas lights switch-ons. His experience in entertainment has led to hosting celebrity red-carpet interviews at The Mobos, Pride of Birmingham Awards, the Transformers premiere in London's Leicester Square & the Man Like Mobeen premiere for the BBC.
Journalism
As a Channel 4 Investigative Journalism MA alumnus, Rakeem is passionate about sharing stories of those from underserved communities. He is an award-winning & multi-award nominated journalist in both print & television. He won the Reporting Communities Award Issued by the prestigious Society Of Editors Regional Press Awards. He was nominated for both the NCTJ's Community News Project Award & Newcomer of the Year by the Midlands Media Awards.
Rakeem's articles have made the Birmingham Mail, The Lad Bible, and The Mirror.
TV
He is a passionate storyteller. BBC England has commissioned his pitches for television & he was nominated for Journalist of the Year at the Royal Television Society Midlands Awards. He has worked behind the camera in production with BBC One, BBC Three, Channel 4 & MTV, on documentaries & current affairs programming.
